The U.S. military said this week it has made great progress in its effort to develop a self-steering bullet.
In February, the "smart bullets" -- .50-caliber projectiles equipped with optical sensors -- passed their most successful round of live-fire tests to date, according to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA.
In the tests, an experienced marksman "repeatedly hit moving and evading targets," a DARPA statement said.
"Additionally," the statement said, "a novice shooter using the system for the first time hit a moving target." In other words, now you don't even have to be a good shot to hit the mark.

It was the morning after a night of unrest in Johannesburg's Alexandra Township that saw foreign-owned shops looted and destroyed.
Mozambican Emmanuel Sithole was walking down a street when four South Africans surrounded him. Sithole pleaded for mercy, but it was already too late. The attackers bludgeoned him with a wrench, stabbed him with knives, all in broad daylight. And Oatway had captured it all on his camera.
"They looked like hardened thugs, just by their intensity, the way they moved, the expressions on their faces," Oatway told CNN. "They wanted one thing and that was to kill Emmanuel. They wanted his blood and nothing was going to stop them from doing that."

The nine-member bench ruled by seven to two that the 1953 law was unconstitutional in a judgement handed down on Thursday.
"Even if adultery should be condemned as immoral, state power should not intervene in individuals' private lives," said presiding justice Park Han-Chul.
It was the fifth time the apex court had considered the constitutional legality of the legislation which had made South Korea one of the few non-Muslim countries to regard marital infidelity as a criminal act.

Cockroach Found in Japanese Noodles

Days after a cockroach in frozen pasta sparked a mass recall in Japan, a noodle maker has shuttered its operations after claims a cooked bug was found inside a meal. Maruka Foods Corp said it was recalling two types of instant fried noodles, after "a claim from a customer that a foreign object, an insect, had been spotted inside one of the products". The company also said in a statement issued on Thursday that it had suspended its entire production line for the time being. The recall affects 46,000 packets of the popular Peyoung instant fried brand, which came into being in the 1970s and has a strong fanbase that refer to themselves as "Peyoungers". Maruka announced the recall after the customer posted a photo on Twitter showing the bug, later confirmed to be a two-centimetre (about 0.8 inch) black cockroach, entangled in noodles, local media said.

Ilham told wowzeto.com: "If I am wearing a suit, many people mistake me for the real Obama. "When I was in America, a grandmother got in the elevator with me and was so shocked to see 'Barack Obama' stood there she fainted." The unassuming father-of-two, who works as a photographer for a teen magazine, is regularly mobbed when out and about in Indonesia - thanks in part to his celebrity status as the fake US leader.

An interfaith service kicked off the day's events in Pretoria, at the Freedom Park amphitheatre dedicated to the country's liberation heroes.
"Twenty years of democracy has been possible because of Mandela," tribal chief Ron Martin said as the sun rose over the Pretoria hills and the smell of herbs burning in spiralled antelope horns wafted over the ceremony.
"Any sense of pride was frowned upon by apartheid," he said, "but we are reclaiming that today."
